This Saturday, Nov. 9

WHAT: Working on the Wonder trail, phase II. This trail will start near the quarry near the Fairy Ponds parking and climb gently for almost 3-miles to the bottom of the existing Wonder trail. We’ve completed sections of this already, but we still have a ways to go.

Soil conditions are not ideal for building trail tread, so we will be clearing the route of organic debris (raking the forest!).

WHEN: noon, Saturday, November 9th We’ll work until 4:00 (with plenty of breaks!) Please arrive early to fill out once-a-year waivers if you haven’t already. Or, fill them out at home and bring with you.

WHERE: Meet at the Fairy Ponds parking and car-pool to where we will walk to the trail work site. This parking is just beyond (south) of the “swimming hole” at the top of Lithia Park.

BRING: Gloves, water, snacks (optional), sturdy footwear. The forecast is warm, but you may want to wear full pants and long-sleeve shirts for poison oak protection. (Note: we are working in a different location than last week and there is less poison oak, but still some.)

Beer and pizza to follow: AWTA is sponsoring beer and pizza after (location to be announced).

Stuff to know:

  • AWTA will provide tools.
  • We’ll divide into groups; each group will have an experienced “trail boss” with them to provide instruction about how to proceed. You do not need to be an experienced trail builder.
  • No Children Under Age 15. Under 17 needs signature of parent/guardian.
  • There is poison oak.
  • We will climb one steep hill where footing may be sketchy and there will be steep side slopes.
  • This can be hard work, but that is really up to you.
